Showdown at highway 134

Showdown at highway 134 from the stimulator on Vimeo.

With some of the only video from behind police lines, subMedia.tv witnessed the brutal raid by the Royal Colonial Mounted Police on the Mi’kmaq blockade of fracking equipment. But the fierce response of the community in defense of the warriors was also captured on camera. We bring you the real story about what really went down on Highway 134, the story that the corporate media doesn’t want you to see.

  • I am proud to call you fellow Canadians, unlike the puppets in Ottawa who think they can cow us all into submission. You are my heroes!

fuck yeah. thanks for getting this up so quick. much love from the Earth First! Journal office. It should read “mike howe” in credits btw.

  • Kit says:

Wonderful, you people are real Protectors, congratulations and much love from Australia where we are having similar battles.
One question, there is a lot of confusion about who set the cars on fire. Many say it was an agent provocateur trying to make the Mi’qmaq look violent. Others say it was a genuine anarchist direct action.

Without giving too much away, can you tell us your point of view? Thanks again for an inspiring blockade <3

    • Jay says:

This isn’t really the place for that question as submedia is just an indie journalist outfit (who does amazing work by the way)

Anyway, conspiracy theories always surface when direct action looks like this and it tells you about the analysis (or lack thereof) of the “theorists” more than anything else.

    • Glomerol says:

It might have been me had I been there. How’s that?
Sometimes setting fires to cop cars, bombing governpimp hangouts, etc., is as simple as an intense and increasing hatred of the corporatocratic governpimp status quo setup. You don’t need conspiracy theories for some of that. Just a little insight into the matrix and blue pills. And some heart for your fellow human in the face of such systems of oppression against people and Mother Earth.

  • […] (Oct. 17) – The RCMP raid on a Mi’kmaq Warrior blockade against fracking [by a US corporation], went down a year ago today. I happened to be covering and camping at the blockade when the shit went down. What I witnessed there was how far the state will use force to protect the interests of corporations. But I also witnessed the huge hearts of the community of Elsipogtog and the uncompromising bravery of the warriors. Thanks to Linda Clair, Migitjo M Clair and Suzanne Patles for their hospitality while I was there. Big ups to Amanda S. Lickers of Reclaim Turtle Island for all the support work she during and after the raid. Finally, I also have to acknowledge that I would have never heard about the anti-fracking struggles in Elsipogtog, if it wasn’t for the persistent and solid journalistic work of Miles Howe of the Halifax Media Co-op. – Franklin López see video here: subMedia.tv […]
